Town Accountant

The Town of Dalton, (population 6,200), is seeking a  highly motivated and detail-oriented professional to serve as the Town Accountant. This position is responsible for managing the daily accounting activities for the Town, under the administrative direction of the Town Manager, and in accordance with the provisions of Massachusetts General Law. The Town Accountant is responsible for overseeing the financial compliance of the Town of Dalton through the maintenance of the general ledger, overseeing the accounts payable process, managing budgets, monitoring revenue, expenditures, and fund balances, and the preparation of financial reports in accordance with state and federal requirements. The Town Accountant manages the Town’s accounting system and provides support and guidance to town departments relative to accounting and regulatory compliance matters, and provides accurate financial information to town officials and the public. Salary: $65,000 – $80,000, dependent on qualifications and experience.

Education and Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or business administration or related field; minimum of five years of general ledger accounting experience preferably in the public sector, with financial software applications experience.  MMAAA Certified Governmental Accountant preferred.

Emergency Management Director

Performs administrative and supervisory work in planning for the safety of the citizens of the Town before, after, and during a natural or man-made emergency; coordinates, plans, organizes, and directs the Emergency Management programs for the Town such as public education and training.  Performs all other related work as required.

High School diploma required; Associates Degree desired, experience in utilizing ICS and NIMS; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license. Military or civil emergency response experience is helpful. Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) recommended but not required.

The Emergency Management Director mut be over 18 years of age, a citizen of the United States, and should be available to respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Knowledge of Incident Command System (ICS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) and knowledge of structure, functions, and interrelationships of state, federal and local governments. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of emergency management administration; thorough knowledge of the approved methods and procedures of modern emergency management techniques, equipment, and related practices.

This position is compensated with a monthly stipend between $750 – $1,000, determined upon experience and qualifications..

Property Maintenance - Dalton Housing Authority

Property Maintenance: This is a part-time job working 15 hours a week.
