The six-member Open Space and Recreation Committee (three-year terms) is appointed by the Town Manager and will work on behalf of the Town as a whole to promote public awareness of open space issues and opportunities and maintain and implement the Open Space and Recreation Plan. The Committee will:

• Maintain a balanced approach to provide safe open space and recreational opportunities for active and passive activities, enhance the Town character, and support opportunities for agriculture and wildlife to flourish;
• Establish priorities within the Plan’s goals and objectives and seek comments from the community regarding its proposals;
• Make recommendations to the Board of Selectmen and to Town Meeting, including sponsorship of warrant articles, regarding the acquisition and use of lands for conservation, recreation and open space;
• Determine and review priority target parcels for protection with the Board of Selectmen, and other committees and boards as warranted; and
• Work with funding organizations, other Town committees, and private land trusts for the common interest of acquiring or preserving and maintaining open space.

The Open Space and Recreation Commitee consists of six (6) members, all appointed by the Town Manager. Current members are maintained by the Town Clerk’s office and available at https://www.mytowngovernment.org/01226.

The committee’s scheduled meeting time is 7:00PM on the 1st Thursday of each month. Meetings to date have been held at Wahconah Regional High School. Meetings are planned to be held in the Town Hall Callahan Room moving forward.
