Police Department

The Dalton Police Department is located in the basement of the Town Hall on Main Street. It has its own entrance around the corner on South Carson Avenue.

Administrative offices are open Monday through Friday. However, the department operates 24 hours a day, and anyone with a problem or question can reach an officer by calling the business line at 413-684-0300.

Firearm Permits:  Permits are processed by appointments only. See below for more information.

Public Safety Facility Advisory Committee

The Public Safety Facility Advisory Committee has provided the following information regarding the Needs Assessment for our new Police Station.  We have included a video of the current Police Department below taken by Dalton Community Cable.  We have also included a link to a survey we are asking Dalton residents to complete.

Firearms Licensing Processing

The Dalton Police Department is processing License to Carry or Firearm Identification Card applications and renewals by appointment only.  Please contact 413 – 684 – 0300 to schedule an appointment.  Appointments are scheduled at the convenience of the Executive Assistant. 

As most of you are aware the An Act Modernizing Firearms Laws (Chapter 135 of the Acts of 2024) were signed into law by emergency preamble on October 2, 2024, by the Governor.  There are several changes with this new law.  Please review the changes and the upcoming changes with the new law here:   https://www.mass.gov/doc/an-act-modernizing-firearms-laws-effective-100224-unless-otherwise-stated-within-the-law/download

For first time applicants:

Please bring the completed application, copy of your safety certification, and a check/money order for $100 made payable to the Town of Dalton. 

For renewals: 

Please bring a check/money order for $100 made payable to the Town of Dalton. No application is needed for renewals.
